While it is easy to invert the negative image, cleaning up the orange mask is quite tedious. I think there is a plug-in or macro in PS to do it, but each emulsion brand and generation is/was different. No. Melissa RGB is the color space used in Lightroom for the Histogram (NOT processing) that uses ProPhoto RGB primaries and a 2.2 TRC like sRGB. It's called Melissa RGB BECAUSE the TRC isn't a 1.8 gamma. Or that would define ProPhoto RGB. Melissa RGB isn't used anywhere expect in the Histogram in Develop module without a soft proof.

I've had good results with some (few) negatives inverting the tone curve in Lightroom and then dealing with the reversed sliders, but that reversal becomes unmanageable quickly if you need a lot of touchup of colors, and also breaks features like facial recognition. My hope was a quick fix, invert it outside before ingesting. Once you know that, it’s pretty simple. Doing the work in Lightroom is infinitely more flexible than using the real thing, but only if you camera can capture all of the dynamic range in a scene to begin with. Tip 1. Brush Shortcut. The shortcut for opening the brush tool is "K". You can type "K" from within ANY of Lightroom's modules and you will be taken directly to the brush tool. 1. Unlike Photoshop, Lightroom does not have a simple "Invert" tool that turns a negative into a positive. I am familiar with the trick where you simply flip the tone curve around. I hate it. Drives me crazy to have all the sliders working backwards. The only plus of this approach is it keeps the file as a DNG. 2.

You can use the Develop module to change a negative scan into a positive image by reversing the tone curve.
